(AUSTIN, Texas – Feb. 22, 2019) The Texas Hospital Association awarded its Pioneer Award to Mitchell County Hospital District CEO Robbie Dewberry for his successful efforts in outstanding financial performance, as well as his commitment and devotion to hospital employees and community.

The Pioneer Award is given to a CEO or administrator of a rural hospital or health care system who demonstrates creative and innovative management achievements and leadership within the organization and the community.

“I cannot think of a more deserving recipient of our Pioneer Award this year,” said Ted Shaw, THA president and CEO. “The numerous awards he’s won are evidence of his efficacy in the hospital space.”

Dewberry accepted the honor on Feb. 22 at the THA 2019 Annual Conference & Expo in Austin.

“I respect THA enormously, and I am beyond honored to have won this prestigious award,” said Dewberry. “Being recognized in this way will raise our profile and enable to even better serve our patients.”

Dewberry’s leadership of various Texas hospitals spans 30 years. Eight of those years have been spent at the Mitchell County Hospital District.

Dewberry is recognized by his team and fellow leaders for a dedication to doing “the right thing every time for every patient” that is key to his success. Striving to meet the general health needs of the rural area, Dewberry ensured community needs are met by planning and building of a 12,000-square-foot rural health clinic.

He lends his time to outside pursuits as well as working with numerous civic organizations throughout the years. He’s also won numerous leadership awards, including the Torch Essence of Leadership Award, which he collected in 2015 and in 2018.
