(AUSTIN, Texas – March 10, 2021)  – The Texas Hospital Association named Michael “Mike” Murphy, CEO of Hendrick Medical Center South in Abilene, as this year’s HOSPAC award recipient. HOSPAC’s annual Star Award recognizes outstanding hospital leaders who have gone above and beyond for political action on behalf of Texas hospitals and the patients we serve.

Murphy’s dedication to HOSPAC is evident through his direct HOSPAC engagement with hospital leaders, his leadership in strategic board planning and even in and his meeting participation – only missing three meetings throughout his time on the HOSPAC board.

Murphy supports Texas hospitals and patients through his fundraising efforts and his engagement in advocacy efforts on behalf of Texas hospitals. Murphy not only encourages his own leadership team to donate to HOSPAC, but advocates for CEOs all over the state to donate as well. Over the last 10 years, Murphy has personally contributed $13,000 to HOSPAC and, most importantly, led countless others to donate.

Murphy served as chair of HOSPAC’s board of trustees from 2015-2018 and continues to serve on the HOSPAC board. He previously served on the THA board of trustees. Murphy is also a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives. With a career in health care management that spans over four decades, Murphy oversees around 700 employees at Hendrick Medical Center South, a 231-bed facility that offers inpatient, outpatient, surgical and emergency care to the Abilene community.

HOSPAC and THA’s member hospitals are privileged to have the support of a leader who understands the value of HOSPAC’s mission to promote the success of the Texas hospital industry and the patients we serve.
