(AUSTIN, Texas – July 29, 2021) – The following is a statement from Ted Shaw, Texas Hospital Association president/CEO, on the issue of mandatory COVID-19 vaccine policies for hospital personnel.
“Hospitals are a place of healing and safety, above all else. The Texas Hospital Association strongly urges health care personnel to be vaccinated against COVID-19 to protect their patients, their communities and themselves. Hospitals also must be able to adopt mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policies for their personnel.
“Health care workers were among the first in line to be vaccinated, and hospitals worked around the clock to vaccinate their staff and communities. After months of bravely fighting the pandemic, health care workers now face mounting hospitalizations – largely among unvaccinated patients. COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths are largely preventable. Vaccines have the power to stop COVID-19 in its tracks. And we all must work together to ensure that every eligible person is vaccinated.”
