THA’s Newsmakers highlights leaders from THA member hospitals and health systems making headlines in Texas health care. Please join in congratulating our June Newsmakers:

Chad M. Collins, MHA, FACHE, CHFP
Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano

Chad M. Collins has been named VP of Operations at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano, a Texas Health Resources hospital. Collins previously served as manager of specialty physician group operations for Texas Health Resources. He returns to the health system almost four years later after serving as administrative director of operations at University of South Alabama Health since 2019. Collins has built a career around health care administration and delivering health care excellence. This year, Collins was among 10 Black health care leaders recognized for commitment to equity, inclusion, diversity and access by a national online magazine for medical professionals.

Ben Coogan
Medical City Plano

Ben Coogan has been named chief executive officer for Medical City Plano. The hospital comprises over 600 acute care beds and 2,200 employees. With nearly two decades of health care and hospital operations experience, Coogan returns to Medical City Plano where he first began his career with HCA Healthcare in 2006. As CEO at Medical City Fort Worth since 2021, his leadership contributed to the successful launch of new services, including thoracic surgery and lung nodule programs, venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) and orthopedic spine care, in addition to the expansion of solid organ transplant services. He also led more than $30 million in facility expansion and capital project proposals. Prior to Medical City Fort Worth, Coogan served as chief operating officer at Medical City Dallas, Medical City Children’s Hospital and Medical City Arlington. Coogan currently serves as a board member of the American Heart Association and the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce and is an active member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Sun Park
Tenet Healthcare

Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare has announced Sun Park will assume the role of executive vice president and chief financial officer for the company in 2024 as part of the company’s planned chief financial officer transition. Park will serve as an executive vice president July 11, 2023 through December 31, 2023. Park is an experienced health care executive with a track record of driving results. He joins Tenet from AmerisourceBergen, where he served as executive vice president and group CFO for pharmaceutical distribution and strategic global sourcing. In this role since 2018, he was most recently responsible for commercial and operational finance for all of AmerisourceBergen’s global business units, which represents over $240 billion in annual revenues and serves health care providers, manufacturers, and patients.

Jochen Reiser, MD, PhD
The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston

The University of Texas System Board of Regents has appointed Jochen Reiser, MD, PhD, as the next president of The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Dr. Reiser is a world-renowned health care, innovation and research leader with more than 18 years of progressive responsibility in various academic health systems and university environments. Currently, he serves as the chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine at Rush University Medical Center and holds the Ralph C. Brown, MD, Professor of Medicine position at Rush University in Chicago. Through his membership on Rush’s medical group executive committee, Dr. Reiser co-managed approximately 1,000 Rush-employed physicians. He played a direct role in a significant transformation of Rush, including system-wide tasks such as clinical redesign, coding and changes in quality and safety structures. Reiser also directed an NIH-funded research laboratory focused on discovering causes of kidney disease and developing novel therapies to combat renal diseases.
