Alexandra “Alex” Brock has been named chief operating officer of HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress. Brock has been serving as the facility’s vice president of operations since January 2021.

Jane Stirrup, MSN, RN, has been named vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer of St. Luke’s Health’s Patients Medical Center in Pasadena. Stirrup has been serving as interim vice president of patient care services at Patient’s Medical Center since November 2020.

John Christopher McClish, M.D., has been named chief of cardiology at CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic. Dr. McClish joins CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic with over 17 years of cardiology experience.

Enrique Bernal has been named chief financial officer of Methodist Healthcare System. Previously, Bernal served as CFO of Methodist Hospital and Methodist Children’s Hospital.

CHRISTUS Spohn Health System and Oceans Healthcare announced plans to build a new, state-of-the-art behavioral health unit. The new unit will provide inpatient and outpatient services on the campus of CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital’s Corpus Christi campus.

Medical City Surgery Center Las Colinas was awarded the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care’s Kershner QI Award. The award is given to ambulatory care centers in recognition of improvements made at their facilities based on their quality improvement studies.

UT Southwestern Medical Center increased depression screenings of oncology patients by 44% as part of a quality improvement project. The team is using the Lean Six Sigma model which standardizes screening and follow-ups within oncology and psychiatry clinics.

University Medical Center unveiled its new mobile stroke unit. The unit is one of 20 in the U.S. and one of 30 in the world. The unit is equipped with an ACT scanner that offers detail about the type of stroke a person may have.

Valley Baptist Medical Center is holding a whole-grain cereal drive to provide local kids and adults with healthy breakfasts this summer. According to the hospital, one in two children in the region live at or below poverty level which leads to food insecurity.

Houston Methodist announced the construction of a new hospital in Cypress. This will be Houston Methodist’s 9th hospital in the region and is projected to be open by 2024.

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and the Broad Institute launched a new translational research platform focused on rare cancers. The joint initiative will perform research and data collection to inform novel therapeutic strategies for rare cancers.

UT Health San Antonio announced a first-of-its-kind national cohort study to look at the social, cultural, behavioral, psychosocial, biological and medical influences on post-cancer life in Latino cancer survivors to fill a crucial gap in knowledge about their experiences.

The UT Health Science Center at San Antonio broke ground and unveiled the cornerstone for the UT Health San Antonio Multispecialty and Research Hospital, a center for research and treatment of cancer and other complex diseases.

Baylor College of Medicine announced that its Temple campus will open in July 2023 with an inaugural class of 40 medical students. Baylor’s new campus will replace Texas A&M in Temple.

Ascension Providence is the first Texas hospital to be recognized through the Edwards Benchmark program for aortic stenosis treatment. The Edwards Benchmark program is designed to encourage the transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) approach.
