After each regular session of the Texas Legislature, hospitals and health care facilities collectively face an onslaught of new laws that require not only awareness, but also – in many cases – incorporation into the facility’s day-to-day operations.
THA’s biennial New Health Care Laws guidebook helps member hospitals navigate the new legal landscape. The 2025 edition of this manual is now available via electronic download for THA members, and physical copies of the book are available for purchase for both members and nonmembers.
This year’s book offers detailed analysis on more than 150 new health care-related laws from the 89th Texas Legislature, with many carrying major ramifications – such as the THA-supported Life of the Mother Act, Senate Bill 31, which clarifies when doctors can legally terminate a pregnancy under Texas law to save the mother’s life. The manual contains a helpful quick-reference index listing bills that introduce an operational impact for hospitals.
More information on the manual is available on THA’s 2025 New Health Care Laws website. Meanwhile, THA’s legal staff is assessing brand-new laws from the just-completed special session of the Legislature in anticipation of publishing an addendum to the health law manual at a later date.
