Matthew Hughes serves as Director of Rehabilitation and Case Management at Uvalde Memorial Hospital, where he leads efforts to expand access to care, enhance patient satisfaction, and improve care transitions.
Matthew began his healthcare career in 2007 as a Physical Therapist and joined Uvalde Memorial Hospital in 2016 as Director of Rehabilitation. Under his leadership, the department has experienced significant growth in staffing, revenue, and service offerings—including the addition of speech therapy, occupational therapy, and cardiac rehabilitation—while consistently improving patient satisfaction and access to care.
In March 2025, Matthew expanded his leadership portfolio to include Case Management. In this role, he focuses on strengthening hospital operations, enhancing collaboration with community partners, and improving discharge planning processes to ensure seamless transitions of care—all while maintaining the hospital’s Critical Access Hospital four-day length of stay standard.
With a natural aptitude for operations and a passion for patient-centered care, Matthew continues to explore opportunities for growth and innovation in healthcare leadership. He lives in Uvalde, Texas, with his wife and three children.
