2022 Award Winner

Cris Daskevich

CRIS DASKEVICH, FACHE, MHA/MBA
CEO, Children’s Hospital of San Antonio SVP, Maternal Services, CHRISTUS Health

Each year, HOSPAC recognizes an outstanding hospital leader with the HOSPAC Star Award for their dedication and tireless work on behalf of all Texas hospitals. This year’s HOSPAC Star Award winner is Cris Daskevich, chief executive officer of Children’s Hospital of San Antonio and senior vice president of maternal services for CHRISTUS Health.

Cris is a passionate advocate for the Texas Hospital Association and HOSPAC – the only political action committee that represents all Texas hospitals. She served on the HOSPAC Board of Directors for over 10 years, including two of those years as chair.

During Cris’ 2018-2019 tenure as chair, she appealed to hospital leaders across Texas to financially support and engage in HOSPAC. Cris understands that hospitals are highly regulated and that it’s crucial for them to be politically engaged so we have a seat at the table. Cris has developed important relationships with elected officials in San Antonio and beyond, she attends meetings with statewide elected leaders, delivers HOSPAC donations when called upon and always provides critical feedback when it’s time for the HOSPAC board to make candidate endorsement decisions. Cris is also a longtime, generous HOSPAC donor. She encourages her system leadership to donate to HOSPAC and advocates for CEOs across Texas to make an annual contribution. A passionate leader for both HOSPAC and THA, Cris puts advocacy into action and inspires others to do the same.

Cris currently serves on the board and executive committee of the Texas Hospital Association Board of Trustees; the Learning and Engagement Committee for the Children’s Hospital Association; the board of directors of Haven for Hope in San Antonio; and the CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Board of Directors. She is the incoming 2023-2024 chair for the American Hospital Association’s (AHA’s) Committee on Maternal and Child Health, which advises AHA on advocacy positions, public policy issues and member service strategies related to maternal, child and family health care issues. In addition to her service on the HOSPAC board, Cris previously served on the Children’s Hospital Association of Texas board and the American Hospital Association’s Regional Policy Board 7.

Cris was unanimously selected for the Star Award by the HOSPAC executive committee. When considering Cris for this award, the committee sung her praises, and wholeheartedly agreed that she is a role model and a very deserving recipient of the HOSPAC Star award. Cris understands the value of HOSPAC’s mission to promote the success of Texas hospitals and the patients we serve. THA member hospitals are privileged to have such a leader in their ranks. THA and HOSPAC congratulate Cris Daskevich – winner of the 2022 HOSPAC Star Award.
