New this year, THA’s annual Health Care Security and Technology Conference will bring together subject matter experts to cover the most relevant topics in today's dynamic world of health care technology and cybersecurity.

The program combines lecture, case-study and practical hands-on sessions in one setting to ensure that attendees derive maximum value. This unique gathering of Texas technology professionals, who are actively learning and networking in a safe and structured setting, will learn to plan for, analyze and respond to cyber threats and emerging technology priorities.

Michael A. Echols

CEO, International Association of Certified ISAOs; CEO, Max Cybersecurity; former director, Cyber Joint Management Office, U.S. Department of Homeland Security

Michael A. Echols joined the International Association of Certified ISAOs as the chief executive officer after seven years at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Mr. Echols developed and implemented cybersecurity strategies to assist DHS to meet its cyber mission by identifying opportunities to enhance the effectiveness of information sharing operations, technology and policy that protect the nation. Mr. Echols managed teams shaping national information technology security as the deputy director of the Strategic Engagement and Cybersecurity Infrastructure Resilience Division where he was also the Director of the Cyber Joint Program Management Office. Among his responsibilities were the classified Enhanced Cybersecurity Services Program and Cybersecurity Information Sharing Collaboration Program.

In 2015, Mr. Echols became the point person for the rollout of Presidential Executive Order 13691 – Promoting Private Sector Cyber Information Sharing. He is the former chief of the Government-Industry Planning and Management Branch, National Communications System from 2009 - 2013. He was the representative to the NATO CCPC in Brussels. He chaired the Communications Sector’s and the International Network Security Information Exchange up until 2014. Mr. Echols also led the only National Sector Risk Assessment for Communications with Government and Industry across wireline, wireless, broadcast, cable and satellite. Additionally, he managed the President’s National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee, 30 Chief Executive Officer level NSTAC members representing IT, Defense and Communications companies producing policy recommendation for the President.

Bob Chaput has 35 years experience working as an educator, executive and entrepreneur. As the former executive vice president, CIO and general manager of leading publically traded global organizations such as GE, Johnson & Johnson and Healthways, Chaput is well-versed in managing and protecting large amounts of data – his experience includes managing some of the world’s largest HR, benefits and healthcare databases, requiring the highest levels of security and privacy.

Chaput is a member of AHA, ACHE, AEHIS, HIMSS, HCCA, HCAA, CAHP, ISC2, HIMSS, AHIMA, ISACA and ISSA. He is active in the community and has served on several non-profit and advisory boards. He has been an adjunct faculty member at Belmont University and the ITT Technical Institute and is a Certified (ISC)2 HCISPP Instructor. He has also written many articles and white papers on information risk management and regulatory compliance and is a familiar and respected voice in several industry publications.”

John Christly currently serves as chief information security officer at WHOA.com, a Florida-based next-generation, ISO 27001-certified, secure cloud solutions provider. Previously, he served as the global chief information security officer for Netsurion and EventTracker where he led cybersecurity and compliance efforts which provide support to in-house corporate teams, as well as customers and partners. Christly also formerly served as the CISO and HIPAA Security Officer for Nova Southeastern University in Florida. He is also the co-founder and CEO for OMC Systems, a Florida-based cybersecurity advisory firm. He also served as the HIPAA Security Officer for Memorial Healthcare System, one of the largest public health care systems in the nation Memorial Regional Hospital is the flagship facility of the health care system and is one of the largest hospitals in Florida.

Joe Theismann is an entrepreneur and the former star quarterback for the Washington Redskins. He spent the last two decades working for ESPN on their NFL broadcast and the NFL Network. The former Washington Redskins quarterback joined ESPN in April 1988, reuniting with play-by-play voice, Mike Patrick. Theismann joined ESPN after spending two seasons as an NFL analyst for CBS Sports. A 12-year NFL veteran, Theismann played in 163 consecutive games from 1974-1985 and holds Redskins’ records for passing yardage (25,206), completions (2.044) and attempts (3,602). Michael Fischer, M.D., MPH & TM has worked for the Texas Department of State Health Services for over 5 years in the Infectious Disease Control Unit and has recently taken-on the role of Antibiotic Stewardship Expert for the Health Care Safety Group of IDCU, DSHS. Prior to taking on this role, Fischer served Texas as the epidemiologist and subject matter expert for prion disease surveillance. Fischer also served as a medical epidemiologist during outbreaks involving high-consequence pathogens (West Africa Ebola Virus Disease outbreak in 2014) and events with elevated public concern (travel-related Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS-CoV)), providing consults to physicians, infection control practitioners, and health care facilities on appropriateness of testing, test results, prevention and control measures, and mechanisms of disease transmission.
