Target Audience
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of administrators, directors of nursing and nursing staff, quality improvement professionals, social work directors, directors of behavioral and clinical services, managed care staff, psychiatrists and psychologists.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Provide an overview of the national trends impacting the behavioral health field include both legislative and regulatory activities.
  2. Define the potential impact of national perspectives on local communities and providers.
  3. Identify opportunities for participants to be prepared for and impact potential changes on the larger behavioral health landscape.
  4. Describe the implementation of a system wide de-escalation strategy to curb the number of violent incidents against health care providers and staff.
  5. Review incident reporting data and how implementation of a successful de-escalation program will impact that data.
  6. Provide a comprehensive overview of the changes and improvements with Texas State Hospitals as part of the Comprehensive Inpatient Mental Health Plan.changes and improvements with Texas State Hospitals as part of the Comprehensive Inpatient Mental Health Plan.
  7. Discuss Mental Health Parity state and federal legislation and implementation.
  8. Describe the Zero Suicide Framework.
  9. Recognize the importance of completing an Organizational Self Study.
  10. Discuss Best Practices that have been Implemented in the State of Texas and their outcomes.
  11. Provide an overview and background on the bill relating to policies, procedures, and measures for school safety and mental health promotion in public schools and the creation of the Texas Child Mental Health Care Consortium.
  12. Describe implementation strategies for SB11.
  13. Identify the biggest outcomes of the 86th Texas Legislative Session that will directly affect the delivery of behavioral health services.
  14. Provide an overview of the Psychiatric Assessment for the Psychiatric Crisis.
  15. Explain how to ensure safety during the assessment process.
  16. Describe the interactions with internal and external behavioral health assessment teams.

Continuing Education

ACHE Qualified Education

The Texas Hospital Association is authorized to award 8.25 hours of pre-approved ACHE Qualified Education credit (non-ACHE) for this program toward advancement or recertification in the American College of Healthcare Executives. Participants in this program wishing to have the continuing education hours applied toward ACHE Qualified Education credit should indicate their attendance when submitting application to the American College of Healthcare Executives for advancement or recertification.
