At the Texas Hospital Association, we’re all about connections. We connect you with legislators so you can discuss your hospital’s story with them and advocate on behalf of the health care industry. We connect you with education and learning opportunities so you can stay up-to-date on best practices and the latest news. And we connect you with one another so you can share your experiences and learn from your colleagues across the state.
THA’s Member Showcase is an ideal opportunity for hospitals to learn from one another. Held during the THA Annual Conference and Expo, the Member Showcase highlights innovations at Texas hospitals that are improving the quality, efficiency and affordability of health care in their communities. Through poster presentations and, in some-cases, verbal presentations, Member Showcase participants are given the opportunity to share their successes and inspire their colleagues.
I personally spent a good deal of time reading through all the poster presentations at last year’s conference. It’s inspiring to see the great work our member hospitals are doing. Here are just a few of the success stories I learned about last year:
- A rural hospital that saved almost $500,000 over two years through the 340B Drug Pricing Program, allowing it to start offering chemotherapy treatment to its patients;
- A facility that reduced its intensive care unit catheter-associated urinary tract infection rate to zero for 18 consecutive months after implementing the use of evidence-based care bundles;
- A hospital that experienced a 41 percent decrease in its biopsy rate following the implementation of contrast-enhanced spectral mammography technology; and
- A hospital that has seen a significant decrease (46.7 percent) in its diabetes 30-day readmissions rate since launching a medication management program in 2013.
There are some amazing things happening at Texas hospitals. I encourage you to submit your great idea for the 2016 Member Showcase today. Submissions are due by Tuesday, Sept. 1. To learn more, go to the Member Showcase page on the THA website.
