  In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by AXIS Medical Education and Texas Hospital Association. AXIS Medical Education is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Target Audience
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of hospital administrators and staff. 

Statement of Need/Program Overview
This conference is designed for hospital administrators and staff, offering a broad range of continuing education focused on enhancing hospital operations and performance.

Educational Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

  • List the reason stakeholders frequently resist change.
  • Outline strategies for leaders to effectively communicate the benefits, minimize the barriers and describe the processes of change.
  • Discuss approaches that are successful and those that impeded the change process.
  • Outline a plan to use the Baldrige Criteria to improve your organization’s performance and quality.
  • Describe the trends seen in Texas compared to the national trends (based on the NHSN data on hospitals meeting the CDC’s 7 core elements for antibiotic stewardship programs.
  • Describe the TDSHS’s first antibiotic stewardship initiative which is aimed at preventing patient harm from unnecessary antibiotic use in treatment of asymptomatic bacteriuria in long-term care facilities (LTCFs).
  • Discuss the role of a nurse in a leadership position to address the complexities facing organizations trying to meet the demands of healthcare in 2018.
  • Apply a 12-point assessment tool to differentiate between low-engagement physicians and active-engagement physicians and the drivers for their behaviors.
  • Interpret and use assessment data to customize one of five new approaches to improve physician engagement.
  • Define, track, and improve provider engagement through involvement, decision-making and leadership.
  • Outline how to involve physicians in quality improvement processes to drive successful clinical integration initiatives.
  • Apply and integrate the AHA Equity of Care goal into operations.
  • Discuss the interrelation of Health Equity, Community Benefit and Population Health.
  • Demonstrate how “meaningful use” of data drives focus for population health programs.
