Target Audience
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of administrators, directors of nursing and nursing staff, quality improvement professionals, social work directors, directors of behavioral and clinical services, managed care staff, psychiatrists and psychologists.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify current legislative efforts that impact the behavioral health field nationally and statewide.
  2. Identify opportunities for participants to be prepared for and impact potential changes on the larger behavioral health landscape.
  3. Outline how to establish and implement a care for the caregiver program within your facility.
  4. Identify the barriers/best practices in treating patients with opioid and mental health comorbidity.
  5. Describe the integrated care model for the mental health patient that can decrease unwanted use in the Emergency Department.
  6. Describe the improvements coming to state hospitals that will better support the continuum of needs across behavioral health service areas.
  7. Outline a coordinate emergency response plan that will better address responses to behavioral health emergencies.
  8. Describe the elements of EMTALA as they pertain to hospitals and difficulties with mental health holds.
  9. Identify how a Law Enforcement Navigation Program can help improve the ineffective utilization of hospital services.

Continuing Education

ACHE Qualified Education

The Texas Hospital Association is authorized to award 9 hours of pre-approved ACHE Qualified Education credit (non-ACHE) for this program toward advancement or recertification in the American College of Healthcare Executives. Participants in this program wishing to have the continuing education hours applied toward ACHE Qualified Education credit should indicate their attendance when submitting application to the American College of Healthcare Executives for advancement or recertification.
