Health care quality competencies are more important than ever. To meet the outstanding need for experienced health care quality professionals, the Texas Hospital Association’s Quality Fellowship is a new offering for health care professionals in THA member hospitals who would like to expand their knowledge and expertise in health care quality.
Participation in the THA Quality Fellowship is free for health care professionals working in a THA member hospital. Applicants do not have to have a clinical background, but should be in a role associated with quality improvement.
Over the course of a calendar year, participants will study the main subjects of the CPHQ examination with individualized coaching and culminates with a quality improvement capstone project that addresses an outstanding need within their organization.
Areas covered in the CPHQ exam that will be also be included during the Quality Fellowship include:
- Organizational leadership;
- Health data analytics;
- Performance and process improvement;
- Patient safety
The CPHQ Exam
At the conclusion of the Quality Fellowship, participants will have to knowledge and tools necessary to pursue the Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) certification accredited by the National Association for Healthcare Quality. The CPHQ examination is the only fully accredited examination that standardizes measurement of the knowledge, skills and abilities expected of health care quality professionals.
The goal of the CPHQ is to promote excellence and professionalism by documenting individual performance as measured against a predetermined level of knowledge about quality.
The credential is valid from the time you receive your certificate through a two-year period, which begins on January 1 of the year following the date you pass the examination.

Program Dates for the 2021 Fellowship:
