Part 1: Talking Politics With Scott Braddock

Is Texas really turning blue? Will the Texas House speaker be a Democrat or a Republican? Join THA and special guest Scott Braddock, editor of the Quorum Report, for a virtual interactive discussion on the political landscape in advance of the upcoming general election and the 2021 legislative session. Quorum Report is Texas’ leading non-partisan online source focusing on Texas politics and government.

This THA event is open to HOSPAC members, and will be moderated by Jennifer Banda, THA’s vice president for Advocacy, Public Policy and HOSPAC.

HOSPAC donors will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss with Scott issues related to all things Texas politics. Braddock will cover how the upcoming election may shape the health care environment in Texas and beyond. He’ll touch on the possibility for coverage expansion and how a tight state budget may impact health-related initiatives. Come ready to prepare your hospital for the political impacts ahead.

Part 2: Health Care Priorities With Michael Darrouzet

THA President/CEO Ted Shaw will sit down – virtually – with TMA’s Michael Darrouzet for an in-depth conversation about Texas health care and the upcoming legislative session. All THA members are invited to attend this free presentation to get an up-close look at the Texas Medical Association’s legislative priorities before the Texas legislative session officially convenes in January.

Over the hour, the two CEOs will cover a wide range of topics including the need to expand health care coverage in Texas, Medicaid funding, the expanded use of telehealth during the pandemic and payor issues. They also will discuss THA’s and TMA’s coordinated efforts to address issues related to immunizations and end-of-life care. Other topics may include graduate medical education, scope of practice and liability protections for health care workers during the pandemic.
