Texas Hospital Advocacy Tribute Award Recognizes Lawmaker’s Commitment to Good Health Policy
(AUSTIN, Texas – Nov. 5, 2018) The Texas Hospital Association today honored State Rep. John Zerwas (R-Richmond) with its Texas Hospital Advocacy Tribute Award for his support of public policy issues important to hospitals and health systems. Rep. Zerwas received the award during a special presentation with Houston hospital leaders.
“THA appreciates Rep. Zerwas’ leadership in crafting the state budget, which protected funding for Texas’ trauma hospitals and enhanced Medicaid payments for rural, safety net and trauma hospitals,” said Ted Shaw, THA’s president/CEO. “Texas hospitals commend Zerwas for his thoughtful approach to challenging issues and for building consensus.”
Since 1997, THA’s Hospital Advocacy Tribute Award recognizes state and federal lawmakers who support the public policy issues important to Texas hospitals and health systems and their ability to meet the health care needs of all Texans.
“Texas hospitals provide essential health care services in communities, and I am proud to support policies that help ensure Texas patients have access to quality health care,” said Zerwas. “I look forward to working with Texas hospitals in Fort Bend County and beyond to protect Texas’ health care safety net.”
Zerwas is a practicing physician and has served in the Texas House of Representatives for 12 years and currently serves as chair of the House Committee on Appropriations.
