HOSPAC Star Award Recognizes Hospital Leader’s Advocacy and Engagement
(Austin – Feb. 6, 2018) The Texas Hospital Association and its political action committee, HOSPAC, today honored Barclay Berdan, FACHE, CEO of Texas Health Resources in Arlington, with the 2017 HOSPAC Star Award for his commitment to political and public policy advocacy on behalf of his health system and of the entire Texas hospital industry. Berdan received the award during a special presentation at the THA 2018 Annual Conference & Expo in Houston.
“Barclay Berdan is a tireless champion for hospitals and health care in North Texas and indeed across the state, and he brings that same energy to support HOSPAC,” said Ted Shaw, THA’s president/CEO. “Barclay not only dedicated himself but also led Texas Health Resources’ staff to advocate for Texas hospitals through political involvement and grassroots advocacy.”
HOSPAC’s annual Star Award, the political action committee’s highest honor, recognizes outstanding hospital leaders who have gone above and beyond for political action on behalf of Texas hospitals and the patients we serve.
Berdan prioritizes hosting elected officials at Texas Health Resources’ hospitals and discussing with lawmakers in Austin and Washington, D.C. the importance of good health care and hospital policy. Berdan also encourages Texas Health Resources to lead internal campaigns to increase staff members’ engagement and participation in state and federal elections.
Before assuming his current position at Texas Health in 2014, Berdan served in various executive roles with the health system since 1986. Berdan also served as chair of THA’s Board of Trustees in 2008 and received the association’s highest honor, the Earl M. Collier Award for Distinguished Health Care Administration, in 2013. He also has served in numerous leadership positions in the health care industry, including with United Way of Tarrant County, American Heart Association Tarrant County, American Excess Insurance Exchange Risk Retention Group, Premier Healthcare Alliance and Healthcare Leadership Council.
