On July 13, 2016, John Hawkins, senior vice president of government relations at the Texas Hospital Association, testified before the Article II subcommittee of the House Committee on Appropriations on hospital financing. The subcommittee, chaired by Rep. Four Price (R-Amarillo), has an interim charge to review hospital reimbursement methodologies, including supplemental payments and Medicaid add-on payments.
In his testimony, Hawkins focused on the impending fiscal cliff for Texas hospitals once the temporary extension of the Medicaid 1115 waiver expires at the end of December 2017 if the state does not address the Medicaid shortfall and reduce the number of uninsured Texans.
