The legal and regulatory issues facing hospitals in Texas are getting more demanding every day. As a member of the THA Council on Policy Development, I can see firsthand THA’s determination and tenacity to tease out the critical issues facing the health of our communities, and to represent and promote the interest of good, prudent patient care to our legislators. More than ever, we need people with experience and sound clinical knowledge – such as the staff of THA – in our court during these times. As the regulatory environment increases in complexity, I can’t imagine any individual hospital trying to tackle these issues on its own.

I value membership in the Texas Hospital Association. THA provides much-needed information and support for our common goal of providing excellent patient care and quality outcomes for the residents of Texas. I especially appreciate the opportunities that THA affords for interaction with members of the state and federal legislatures. These contacts have helped me reinforce needs regarding health care access, regulatory concerns and the future of affordable care for Texas residents. LifeCare Hospitals are proud to be associated with THA.

The Ballinger Memorial Hospital District has benefited enormously through the membership with Texas Hospital Association. Our board members receive timely education at the Texas Healthcare Trustees meetings that are sponsored across the state and through Web-based offerings. The Health Care Advocate keeps the staff up-to-date on current health care issues and the Ballinger Hospital has benefited from cost savings through the THIE workers’ compensation program. Supported by feedback from the Rural Constituency Council, THA continues to represent rural issues on a state and national level while working in conjunction with other state and national health care associations. Texas Hospital Association supports rural health care and our hospital values its THA membership.

Many times, hospitals’ service to their communities is lost amidst the competing voices in Austin. Through our collective support of THA, our voice is heard and our message is delivered both to our legislators and to our communities. We support Texas Hospital Association because it is one more way in which we are able to work together to improve health care in our communities. Through education and advocacy, THA is our voice for change. Working together, Texas hospitals can effectively influence the quality of care provided to the communities we serve.

Texas Hospital Association is an invaluable resource to the El Paso County Hospital District. Being so far removed from the state capitol, our organization relies on THA’s presence in Austin to keep us up-to-date with the latest legislative developments and to represent our interests during important policy discussions. THA staff members always are quick to respond to our inquiries. On several occasions, they have provided top-notch research for us as well as in-depth analysis of some of the more complex issues our industry faces. Additionally, THA’s educational offerings are always timely and useful and provide attendees with valuable networking opportunities. THA membership is highly recommended.

The membership services provided to Texas hospitals are “value added” from serving as a collective clearinghouse with the regulatory and accrediting agencies to a strong advocate regarding hospital-related legislative issues. Thanks, THA!
