Advance Directives

Helping Texans prepare for difficult end-of-life decisions BEFORE they are in an emergency situation is an important community service of Texas hospitals. Because so many Texans still do not have advance directives in place, these heart-wrenching decisions too often are being placed on families and loved ones. Lack of public education about the state’s advance directives laws and the importance of individuals making their own health care decisions in advance of emergencies has lead to public and legislative misperceptions and legislative initiatives. The Texas Hospital Association has produced a suite of products to help member hospitals understand and communicate on end-of-life issues.

In addition, THA tracks related legislation and regulatory activity to keep members informed.
