This session explores how pressures for expanded organizational performance now require higher levels of board-CEO partnership for executive performance planning and appraisal. Rice will provide fresh insights regarding strategies for enhanced executive team development and performance.


Board Member Succession Planning and Selection

This presentation will focus on building a better board by preparing for vacancies and utilizing criteria for board member selection. Learn the steps involved and best practices in succession planning and how to ensure that the planning is carried out.


Speakers

Luanne Stout is vice president of governance at Texas Health Resources. She has more than 30 years' experience in health care governance, and health and corporate law. She was instrumental in the development of the governance structure of THR at the time of its formation from the merger of Presbyterian Healthcare System, Harris Methodist Health System and Arlington Memorial Hospital in 1997, as well as THR’s system governance restructuring initiative in 2001. Working with the THR executive team, Stout designs and implements a multi-year system governance strategy and administers and coordinates all aspects of governance/board operations for 27 boards.
James A. Rice, Ph.D., FACHE is the executive vice president and practice leader of the governance and leadership services practice at Integrated Healthcare Strategies, and also serves as the vice chairman for The Governance Institute. Rice has advised health systems, physician groups, boards of directors and ministries of health in more than 30 countries, and has lectured extensively across the nation. He received his master’s and doctoral degrees in management and health policy from the University of Minnesota.
Larry Tyler founded Tyler & Company, an executive health care and life sciences search firm, 32 years ago. He serves on the board of Signium International, a consortium of executive search firms with more than 40 offices around the world. Tyler is a fellow of the American Association of Healthcare Consultants, American College of Healthcare Executives and Healthcare Financial Management Association. He is an adjunct professor in Health Administration at the University of Colorado and the University of Alabama. He has published numerous articles in health care and trustee publications.
