The International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM) is based on the World Health Organization's Ninth Revision, International Classification of Diseases (ICD-9). This Webinar series will include a detailed review of diagnosis issues and hot topics in key areas. Coding expert Karen Scott will discuss documentation needs with a focus on correct coding utilizing ICD-9-CM rules and Official Coding Guidelines. Facility coding policies and auditing topics also will be covered.

Learning Objectives

• Discuss key issues related to targeted areas in ICD-9-CM coding;
• Describe documentation challenges that cause incorrect coding; and
• Identify correct coding of problematic areas in ICD-9-CM coding.

Target Audience

This Webinar series will be beneficial to health information directors and outpatient coders, business office directors and outpatient billers, compliance officers, chief financial officers, chargemaster managers and other interested hospital personnel.
 


Speakers

Karen Scott owns Karen Scott Seminars and Consulting in Memphis. Scott is well-known throughout the country for her training expertise in coding, medical terminology, compliance and ambulatory payment classifications for both hospital and physician practices. She is past-president of the Tennessee and Arkansas Health Information Management associations and past-president of the AHIMA Council on Certification.

 

Scott holds a bachelor’s degree in Medical Record Administration and a master’s degree in Instructional Technology from Arkansas Tech University in Russellville. She is credentialed as a Registered Health Information Administrator and Certified Coding Specialist - Physician Based by the American Health Information Management Association, and as a Certified Professional Coder by the American Academy of Professional Coders.
