Medicare Conditions of Participation and Joint Commission Standards

Format: Audio CD-ROM (includes presentation materials)
Estimated Duration90 minutes per part
Price: $550 for the three-part audioconference series

OVERVIEW

Keeping up with the ever-changing requirements of Medicare and the Joint Commission can be challenging for any hospital. Since February, CMS released updated requirements for History and Physical Examinations; Authentication of Verbal Orders; Securing Medications and Post-anesthesia Evaluations; Restraint/Seclusion Interpretive Guidelines; and the Conditions of Participation. In addition, the Joint Commission updates its standards twice per year. This three-part audioconference series, recorded in August 2008, compares and contrasts important new similarities and differences between CMS and Joint Commission requirements, with an emphasis on compliance strategies.

The series includes:

  • Part One: Aug. 12. Overview of CMS and Joint Commission 2008 changes; differences in survey techniques; patient rights requirements and miscellaneous leadership requirements
  • Part Two: Aug. 19. Overview of key differences between the Joint Commission Standards and the Medicare Conditions of Participation
  • Part Three: Aug. 26. Newly revised CMS requirements related to restraints and seclusion vs. Joint Commission requirements; and newly revised CMS requirements related to patient grievances, a topic not specifically addressed by Joint Commission
