Texas Hospital Association

Stimulus Package Resources

The economic recovery package approved by Congress and signed by the President provides approximately $16 billion in direct assistance to Texas. The $4.63 billion temporary increase in the Federal Medical Assistance Percentage (FMAP) is the single largest payment Texas receives. How the Legislature appropriates the new federal funds – and what the freed-up general revenue is used for – will have a significant impact on Texas hospitals.

As federal rules are written to implement specific provisions in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act – such as the Health Information Technology investment – the Texas Hospital Association will provide updated information. THA also is working to ensure that the federal dollars for health care are used appropriately.

The ARRA invests not only in efforts to restore short-term economic vitality, but also in projects to create long-term economic well being, such as health information technology and sustainable energy. General information about the ARRA is online at www.recovery.gov. This site also provides links to various grant opportunities funded by the ARRA.
