The economic recovery package approved by Congress and signed by the President provides approximately $16 billion in direct assistance to Texas. The $4.63 billion temporary increase in the Federal Medical Assistance Percentage (FMAP) is the single largest payment Texas receives. How the Legislature appropriates the new federal funds – and what the freed-up general revenue is used for – will have a significant impact on Texas hospitals. As federal rules are written to implement specific provisions in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act – such as the Health Information Technology investment – the Texas Hospital Association will provide updated information.
