According to a new report from Moody’s Investors Service, Medicaid funding cuts by state governments will significantly stress the credit quality of U.S. nonprofit hospitals for at least the next several years. Medicaid spending represents about 22 percent of state budgets on average, and 37 states have cut Medicaid hospital reimbursement rates for their fiscal 2012 budgets – including Texas. To improve ratings, hospital and health care system management teams will need to continue to cut costs, especially on labor and supplies, and delay or scale back on capital projects, the report said.
